SPIRIT, MIND, & YOU

Labor to Rest
by: Sari Simmons

As I sit and speak to the elders of my church, I sit with amazement at the simple but profound wisdom that leaves their lips. I asked one elder of the church, “What’s the key to keeping your job?”. She replied, “Go to work.” How simple, but how wise.

As I spoke with another elderly lady and listened to her work ethics, my heart gripped with conviction. She lived in Missouri, but worked in Kansas. Every morning she started her day at the crack of dawn catching buses and walking to make it to her destination on time. She did not do this for only one or two years, but thirty-four years. She later told me, when her husband walked out on her, she moved into her family’s place and began living there with her three children, because, she said she knew she could afford to live there.

Both of these dear sisters labored while younger to enter into the rest and good life they now enjoy.

But our generation is so different. We play games on the couch, while using a computer. We change channels on television using a remote. We push buttons to heat up our food. Yet we want to retire big with big homes, fine cars and with little labor.

The word of God says, God worked six (6) days and on the seventh day He rest from all of His labor. Hebrew 4:4b "...and God did rest the seventh day from all His works." Genesis 1:31-2:2, "And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made."

Noah built the ark(He worked). Genesis 6:22 Thus did Noah: according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

David slew Goliath, I Sam 17:49-51, "And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Phillistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth."

FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD.
Once we speak words of Faith, we have to put some corresponding actions to our faith and watch God’s work. We can only rest after we have labored in all that the Holy Spirit has led us to do.

Once you have spoken all the Word you know to do; worked the works you have in your spirit to do; sowed what you have been inspired to do…then rest and enter into His promises. They are yours. They are mine. We then will do as our Father, rest on the seventh day and say Lord, this is very good.

Thank You Lord.
